.) Fill boiler about 1/3 full with water. Close Injector Valve. Remove water fitting. Close blowdown valve.
.) Add water treatment to Tender water tank.
.) Pump manual water pump to bleed lines to axle pump. Close bypass and check if pump handle is a bit harder to pump. It should be.
.) Install Fire Grate.
.) Install Ash Pan.

.) Light charcoal, closing fire box door once it is lit.
.) Adjust stack air to ensure good strong draft.
.) Oil Tender Trucks.
.) Check charcoal and begin adding coal.
.) Apply Steamer Oil to Crosshead Slides.
.) Continue adding coal, being sure to rake and keep stack air adjusted.
.) Oil moving parts on engine.
.) Add oil to lubricator.
.) Once boiler reaches about 40 psi, turn on blower and remove stack air.
.) Make sure coal bunker is full.
.) Test injector pickup and adjust injector water valve if required.
.) Once boiler is up to pressure and ready to move, open cylinder cocks, open throttle slightly and clear / warm cylinders.
.) Close cylinder cocks.
